GDEF is pleased
to announce that it has recently received a new $4,000 grant from
the Bruce J. Anderson Foundation, a supporting organization of
the Boston Foundation, to implement an Integration of the Arts
project. Click here to view the special Call
for Proposals for Integration of the Arts.
In 2007, with funding
from a $6,000 grant, the “Integration of the Arts”
project allowed us to increase enrichment opportunities in the
arts by funding six
new programs touching every school in our district,
from our youngest pre-schoolers to high school students. At a
time when many districts are working to keep core curriculum and
personnel in place, GDEF, through the monies made available by
the Bruce J. Anderson Foundation, offered our teachers a unique
opportunity—to expand the walls of their classrooms and
engage their students in the arts. And teachers did just that!
They partnered with artists, authors, musicians and performers,
many of them talented members of our local community, to inspire
their students to explore the arts not only as a subject in its
own right, but in relation to other subjects such as poetry, writing,
and even science. As a result, we have all successfully worked
together to not only expand our students’ knowledge, but
more importantly, to make this knowledge truly meaningful to them.
The Bruce J. Anderson
Foundation was established in 1980 by Bruce’s siblings to
honor his memory and to support the causes he embraced. While
Bruce was growing up in this area, he developed a passion for
the arts and the creative, educational message found within them.
GDEF is proud to carry on the spirit of Bruce’s passion
through our “Integration of the Arts” project.
GDEF acknowledges
and appreciates the support of the Bruce J. Anderson Foundation,
and with the newly funded grant, looks forward to to bringing
more innovative, arts-related programs to our district students.
