On Tuesday, November 1st, 2005
magic was in the air

as we presented

An Afternoon of Magic

for pre-school, elementary and middle school students
and their families.

The program, presented at Middle School South
in cooperation with the
Groton Dunstable Alliance for Youth's Half-Day Initiative,
featured the magic of Scott Jameson
and was a resounding success!

Designed with family audiences in mind,
Scott's show combined magic and juggling with clever characterizations, physical skill, music, mime, storytelling, and plenty of audience participation!

(Visit Scott’s website at www.scottjameson.com for
more information on his spectacular shows!)

Prior to the show, GDEF hosted a pizza lunch
with pizza provided by Domino's.

Complimentary cookies, juice and coffee
were served following the show.

As usual, we couldn't have done it without
the help of numerous wonderful volunteers!

We would like to thank:

Alice Anne Barbo and Cheryl Smith,
for their invaluable assistance in planning and organizing the event

The Administrators and Office Staff
at Boutwell, Florence Roche, Prescott, Swallow Union
and the Middle School,
who helped tremendously in handling ticket orders

Judy Robinson of GDAY

Mike Deneault of the Performing Arts Center

Karen Tuomi

The great Custodial Staff of the Middle School

The Schembechler Family of Dunstable
for the delicious Domino's pizza

Greco Graphics at Mill Run Plaza in Groton
Learning Express of Acton
Lowell Lock Monsters Hockey
&
Jeanne Mitchell and the GDRHS Cheerleaders
for their donations of raffle items

A sincere thanks to all the event volunteers who served pizza,
helped at the door, and provided cookies and beverages
for the post-show reception:

Rachel Connerty
Karen Fritzman
Heather Ganley
Kim Herdiech
Karen Kleinschmidt
Hannah Lyons
Jacob Moskow
Evann Peck
Carolyn Pisani
Nancy Powell
Evan Sheffield
Marcia Styskal

Finally, a very big thank you to all of you who attended
the "Afternoon of Magic" or who have in other ways
supported GDEF's efforts to enrich public education
in Groton and Dunstable!

In addition to the rousing good time had by all,
over $1,300 was raised to help fund
our fall grant cycle!

Nineteen applications totaling over $36,000
were received for this grant cycle.

To date, GDEF has funded forty-nine grants
totaling more than $86,000.

Grants have been implemented in every school in the District
and have covered a broad range of disciplines,
impacting every schoolchild in Groton and Dunstable.
