Donations Exceed Expectations For Groton Dunstable Education Foundation Premier Event

The first event being held to benefit the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation will be on Friday, October 10, at Jos. Kilbridge Antiques on Main Street in Groton.  The combination Antique Preview Party, Silent and Live Auction and Dance has already generated a fair amount of buzz within the communities of Groton and Dunstable and - it seems – in various businesses both locally and as far away as Montana.

Both Beth Falkner and Thekla Alcocer, co-chairpersons of the Antique Preview Party Donor Team, beam when the subject of donations is raised.

"The level of generosity is absolutely astounding,” says Falkner, of Dunstable. "It seems that when the enthusiasm and capability of our Donor Team join with the public's support for education, we've struck gold!"

"Donations have come in from near and far," says Alcocer, of Groton. "We've had amazing response from our community, including Stoneworks, Mike Rozumek's Karate Center, The Colonial Stoneyard, NOA, Generous Heart and many members of the Dunstable Artisans.  In addition, we'll have a ski vacation package to Waterville Valley and have had a donation from Off the Beaten Path, a luxury adventure vacation outfitter located in Montana."

And donations are not limited to the items to be auctioned off.  Local donors have come together to provide everything from tables and tablecloths to the design and printing of invitations and posters.

“The support has been incredible,” says Sharon Schmidt, Director of Fundraising for the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation.  “From the venue, tents, tables, and more that have been donated by Jos. Kilbridge Antiques, to the combination of Gina Milan’s (of Groton and President of Milan Design in Groton) artistry and Justin Pallis’ (of Dunstable and a principal of DS Graphics in Lowell) graphics and printing business for our logo, letterhead, envelopes, posters and invitations, to the multitude of in kind and auction donors, we have been so fortunate to have such wonderful community support.”

“As our final donations arrive in hand we will be having a meeting focused on bundling items that make sense to bundle while leaving other donations as stand alone items” says Falkner.  “For example, ski passes might be bundled with a bottle of nice wine and the use of a condominium at that mountain for the weekend.”

Laurie Moskow, a Director with the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation as well as chief author and designer of their website at www.gdefinc.org, adds, “Some items are already listed on the website, and many more will be added once we close out all donations.”
