Media Release The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation to launch grant application process Energized by the success of its first major fundraiser on October 10th, the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation, Inc. (GDEF) has been diligently finalizing details for its grants application process. The grants program will be launched on Wednesday, November 19th, when the Foundation presents at a GDRSD District-wide faculty meeting and at that evening’s School Committee meeting. On November 20th, Jane Bouvier will be interviewing GDEF Directors of Fundraising and Grants Disbursement on the televised “Around Town” cable show. One of the goals of this non-profit organization is to provide opportunities for every child in our public school system to acquire the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to develop to his/her potential both as a student and as a community member. Since the most innovative programs may be those that have not yet been envisioned, GDEF will consider funding any grant program that will provide enrichment to the quality of education in the public schools located in the towns of Groton and Dunstable which are part of the Groton Dunstable Regional School District (GDRSD). While the Foundation's vision focuses on academic- and arts-oriented programs, any programs which seek to engage a student's curiosity, encourage a lifelong love of learning and desire to strive for excellence, and embrace the overall development of the student will be considered. As the Foundation completes the work necessary to implement the grant process, new talent has joined the seven founding Directors of GDEF. Recently appointed GDEF Director and Groton resident Kate McNierney says, “I am honored to take on the job of Grants Disbursement Director for the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation. I have been working with Marge Kimpton, retired GDRSD educator and Dunstable resident, since August researching and developing the grants application and disbursement process. I was extremely impressed with the outpouring of support from the community at the auction in October, and now it’s time to put the money that’s been raised to work for the students in our District. The GDEF Board of Directors is an immensely talented group with a broad range of abilities and I am looking forward to combining my efforts with theirs in conjunction with the school district to give Groton and Dunstable the best education foundation we can.” Watch for more news next week and check our website for more information on our grants application at www.gdefinc.org.
