Media Release The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation announces second grant cycle Building on the successful completion of their first grants cycle, the GDEF has launched their second cycle this week. Grant applications will be accepted until May 1st and recipients will be announced the second week of June. The GDEF Board of Directors scheduled this cycle in anticipation of professional development courses that could be completed this summer and for classes beginning next September. In the cycle that closed January 8, 2004, twenty applications were received and twelve grants were approved for funding. Individual grants were awarded across several disciplines and multiple grade levels, including grants to fund an elementary school poetry immersion project; MINDSTORM Robotics for the Middle School Science classes; a Visual and Cultural Literacy slide library and projector for the High School Art classes that will also be available for use by other schools in the District; the student‑led Community Action Team; a Nashua River Watershed Association Wildlife Adaptations program for all 5th graders in the District, and exciting professional development opportunities for classroom teachers. For an overview of grants awarded, visit the Grant Applications page on our website at www.gdefinc.org. The GDEF will consider applications for any grant program or professional development experience that will provide enrichment to the quality of education in our publicly funded schools. While the Foundation's vision focuses on academic- and arts-oriented programs, any program which seeks to engage a student's curiosity, encourage a lifelong love of learning and desire to strive for excellence, and embrace the overall development of the student will be considered. To support the success of our grants program, the GDEF is pleased to announce that we will be offering “Grants Writing Workshops” which are open to all GDRSD educators as well as interested residents of the communities of Groton and Dunstable. These workshops are currently being scheduled and more information will be forthcoming next week.
