Groton Dunstable Education Foundation
Yes,
Groton and Dunstable,
There Really is a ‘Groton Dunstable Education Foundation’
After much speculation – and quite a few rumors – the Groton Dunstable Education
Foundation is on its feet and is hitting the ground running, according to
co-Presidents Lisa Dingle and Kristen Stone.
“We are so happy to finally be able to talk openly about the
Foundation.” said Stone, of Groton, “Since January of this year, the Team has
been busy dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s toward a registered, non-profit
organization focused on furthering excellence in education within our
communities.”
According to their mission statement, the Groton Dunstable
Education Foundation is a “volunteer non-profit organization committed to
enhancing the success of our public schools by providing private funding for
innovative, inspiring programs and opportunities. This community driven
foundation believes that each child deserves an excellent educational experience
and that supported and successful schools are fundamental elements of our
special communities.”
“The idea here is to provide that little extra ‘boost’ that a
student or educator needs to reach that level of ‘excellence” said Lisa Dingle,
of Dunstable. “The bucket of public funds for education will never be bottomless
– not even in the best economic times. We view the Foundation as one possible
source for funding those creative, innovative ideas that are not provided for in
a typical school operating budget.”
The names of the games for this Foundation are, of course,
fundraising and grant disbursement. And the communities seem to be coming out
in full-force to support the newly formed Foundation. This coming October – the
evening of October tenth to be exact – the Parent and Teacher Organizations for
the Groton Dunstable Elementary and Middle Schools, the Groton Dunstable High
School Students, and the Groton Dunstable Alliance for Youth (G’DAY) are
sponsoring an Antique Preview Party, Live and Silent Auction, and Dance under
the tents at Jos. Kilbridge & Sons Antiques in Groton – the proceeds of which
will benefit the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation.
With the details and donor list (for auction items) soon to
come, the organizations working together toward this special night bear out the
Education Foundation’s desire to be a truly community-driven organization –
separate from, yet in synergy with, the Groton Dunstable Regional School
District.
“I see the formation of this Foundation as a wonderful example
of how communities can come together to support public education” said Mary
Jennings, Superintendent of the Groton Dunstable Regional School District. “I
look forward to a long and supportive relationship moving forward.”
