Media Release The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation Announces DINNER, DRAMA AND DESSERT! Coming in April Planning is underway for the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation’s (GDEF) Spring 2005 fundraiser, DINNER, DRAMA AND DESSERT! This event will feature a community theatre production on Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th, at the High School’s Black Box Theatre. The play, directed by GDRHS drama teacher Christina Chadzynski, is Marc Camoletti's hilarious comedy, "Don't Dress for Dinner." On Friday evening attendees will be able to opt for hors d’oeuvres and dinner at the award winning Stonehedge Inn in Tyngsboro prior to the play. Saturday night's performance will be preceded by a concert by the GDRHS band and chorus, featuring the premiere of a new piece of music by composer Sean O'Loughlin commemorating Groton's 350th birthday. This piece of music was commissioned by the HS Music Department through a grant from GDEF which not only supported the composition of the piece, but also the opportunity for GDRHS students to gain insight into the process of composition and to work with the composer on the performance of the piece. A selection of gourmet desserts, coffee and tea in the Atrium will follow the play on both evenings. Tickets go on sale March 1st. Please visit www.gdefinc.org for more details. The proceeds raised from this fundraiser will fund the Fall 2005 grant cycle. To date, GDEF has awarded 36 grants totaling more than $60,000. These grants have touched virtually every student in the GDRSD and encompass a broad spectrum of educational issues resulting in wide-ranging impact on the lives of students and teachers. For an overview of grants awarded, visit the Grant page on the GDEF website listed above. The Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for its Spring 2005 grant cycle which closes on April 1st. As the number and quality of grant applications continues to grow, GDEF is appreciative for the financial support of the members of the communities of Groton and Dunstable, and the generous spirit in which it is given. Auditions for the play are scheduled for February 4th, 7-9 p.m., and February 5th, 2-5 p.m., in the GDRSD Black Box Theatre. Please email Janet Sheffield at jsheffield@gdefinc.org with any questions.
