• An Exclusive Preview & Sale for the Groton Antiques Show (being held
on October 9th) The Antique Preview Party and Auction was sold out last year and the same turnout is hoped for again this fall as we all come together to raise funds to support innovative programs in the publicly funded Groton Dunstable Regional School District. Kristen Stone, GDEF Co-President says, “We are so appreciative of the support and generosity of Cathie diGrazia and Jos. Kilbridge Antiques. Hosting the Antique Preview Party and Auction under tents in their moonlit meadow provided a wonderful setting which truly made last year’s event a night to remember for all who attended.” Exciting auction items donated for this year’s event include a Wyoming ranch vacation for a family of four; several overnight winter and summer getaway in venues such as the White Mountains, Cape Cod and the New England Coast; a Porsche and Audi weekend getaway; a family motor home weekend outing; tickets for sporting events, activities and equipment; several gourmet food and spirit evenings including the Stonehedge Inn, Herb Lyceum, Dalya’s, Currier and Chives, and the Groton Market. The monies raised will be used to fund innovative programs and professional development experiences to benefit the students in the Groton Dunstable Regional School District. Although in existence for only one year, the Ed Foundation has already awarded many grants including funding to expand the teaching of mechanical drafting in 6th, 7th and 8th grades; to enrich the teaching of science at Prescott; to facilitate the study of famous composers at Florence Roche; an elementary school poetry immersion project; Mindstorm Robotics for the Middle School Science classes; a Visual and Cultural Literacy slide library and projector for the High School Art classes that will also be available for use by other schools in the District; the student led Community Action Team; a Wildlife Adaptations program for all 5th graders in the District as well as exciting professional development opportunities for classroom teachers in the areas of math, Spanish, French and graphic design. When you consider the graphing calculator projection systems the GDEF purchased for the High School this past spring, in conjunction with the funding of mechanical drafting in the Middle School and additional training for Elementary teachers in the Math Investigations program, it is fair to say that within a year the Groton Dunstable Education Foundation has positively affected the math education of nearly every child in our school district. While it is thrilling to be able to have this kind of impact, it is also important to acknowledge that what the Ed Foundation is doing is enhancing the excellent education already being provided in our schools by many very dedicated teachers and administrators. For a complete overview of grants awarded, visit the Grant Applications page on our website at www.gdefinc.org. Please go online to purchase your tickets now or watch for your invitation which will be sent home in your child’s backpack the first week of school. The GDEF thanks the communities of Groton and Dunstable for their continued support of the Ed Foundation’s commitment to fund grants which enhance the success of students in the GDRSD. We are all working together to help our students Reach for the Stars.
